Rhinos run riot to secure Super League status

23 أيلول 2018 18:41

Leeds Rhinos secured their place in next season's Super League thanks to a convincing 34-6 victory over Halifax.

The Rhinos went into Sunday's clash at the Shay knowing a victory would ensure their top-flight status for 2019 with one round of the Qualifiers remaining, and they ultimately got it in comfortable fashion.

Richie Myler put Leeds ahead early on but Halifax - rooted to the bottom of the table – rallied and, after Jacob Fairbank went close, Steve Tyrer took in a raking cross-field kick to send the hosts into the interval level.

Tyrer's good work was swiftly cancelled out after the restart, though, as Brad Dwyer's quickfire double gave the Rhinos control.

Liam Sutcliffe was on form with the boot and his 14-point haul was aided by a lunge over in the 52nd minute, before tries from Cameron Smith and Luke Briscoe extended the Rhinos' advantage late on.

While Halifax face another campaign in the Championship, Leeds will bring what has been a disappointing campaign to an end when they host promotion hopefuls Toronto Wolfpack in their final match.
